Travelling with R&R

What is different in a R&R Adventure trip?

Our adventures are carefully curated and designed to provide an experience based on the three pillars of our company: adventure, nature and exchange with local communities. Therefore, in each of our experiences you will have a component based on adventure (softer or harder depending upon the trip), contact with nature and natural landscapes and exchange with local communities, meeting local families and exchanging time and experiences with them.


What are R&R Themes?

Our themes define not only the geographical area that you will be visiting, but also a set of peculiarities, a personality and a travel style. Each of our themes has been carefully designed to create an atmosphere and with a specific narrative. Visit each of our Themes pages to find out more about them.


What is the usual group size of a R&R adventure?

Our groups are usually small, with a maximum of 12 participants in most cases and an average of 6-8 people per trip. Apart from that you will have a local tour leader, specific instructors in the case of activities such as rock climbing or surfing, local guides for specific areas and of course, a number of local families which you will be visiting and staying with.


We are a family, can we travel with our kids?

Some of our adventures are completely family-friendly and are indeed a great option to travel with your kids. Contact us to enquiry about the tour you are interested in and we will help you to decide if it is more or less suitable for your family. There are always alternatives to the most demanding activities, contact us to find out more.


Do you do bespoke adventures or in different dates?

Yes, we can design bespoke adventures for you and your friends. We usually require a minimum of 6 people. Contact us for more information.


Booking a Trip

How do I book a R&R adventure?

You have to click on the dates you would like to book from the tour page. Once in the booking page you just have to register entering your details and then enter the information of your passengers. You can choose to pay a deposit of £150 per traveller or the full amount for the trip. After this, someone from our team will get in touch to send you your Trip Notes.


When can I book my flights?

Once you book your trip, you will receive notification on the trip status, whether this is already guaranteed or not. If it is guaranteed you will be notified immediately and you can proceed and book your flights. If it is not, you will receive a notification once it is guaranteed, the latest, three weeks before departure.


Who are my travelling companions?

For data protection reasons we cannot provide you with advance details on your traveling companions. However, you can meet your fellow travellers in our forums prior to departure. Our tours appeal to a wide range of travellers, most of whom share an adventurous spirit and a desire to experience these destinations at a grass-roots level. Our tours are conducted in English and so they attract many travellers from different parts of the world. Most of them are based in UK though, as Rug&Rock Adventures is a British company with base in London.


Can I book extra nights of hotel accommodation before or after my tour?

Yes, in most cases we can arrange additional accommodation at our starting or ending hotels. Please contact the Rug&Rock team for price information and more details.


What are the age restrictions on your tours?

To travel independently you must be at least 18 years of age. There are no upper age limits for our tours (although is recommendable to check the activity level on our Website). Also, travellers with pre-existing medical conditions or special food requirements are required to specify it on the Traveler Registration Form.


I'm a solo traveller, will I be charged a single supplement?

Most of our trips do not have a single supplement. This means that the accommodation is on a twin share basis and, if you are travelling on your own, you will be sharing a room with another Rug&Rock traveller of the same sex. Nevertheless, the room arrangements can be left to group decisions and people usually organise themselves to choose the best arrangement to their preference. An optional single supplement may be available in some cities such as Marrakech, Malaga, Fez, etc. The costs and details vary by trip, so please contact us for more details.


Can I join a tour late or leave it early?

It's extremely difficult if not impossible to join a tour after it has begun. It is possible to leave a tour early however you will be responsible for your own arrangements from the moment you decide to leave the tour. You would also be responsible for all costs associated with joining a tour late or leaving one early. If you feel this may be necessary please contact the Rug&Rock Adventures team before you book your adventure.


Before your Depart

What is the most appropriate type of luggage to bring?

We strongly recommend bringing a backpack or duffel bag, as suitcases can be cumbersome and difficult to carry in some cases with mules or camels. Suitcases with wheels may not work well on dirt or cobblestone roads.


What clothing should I pack for one of your adventures?

We always recommend packing as light as possible however the specific requirements for your tour will vary widely depending on where and when you are traveling. Our 'Trip Notes' document includes a suggested packing list. The Trip Notes will be sent once you book any of our adventures. The checklist is tour specific and based upon the experience of our ground staff.


What vaccinations are recommended for this adventure?

It's important that you receive the most accurate and up-to-date travel health information for the region you will be visiting. The only one qualified to provide you with this advice is your family physician or a specialist from a Travel Health clinic.


Are airport transfers included?

All our adventures include airport transfers on the official arrival and departure days. In case you needed airport transfers before or after the trip we recommend you arrange a taxi on arrival (this is the most economical and efficient way of getting you to your hotel). If you would prefer a pre-arranged transfer these are usually available at an additional cost - please contact us for more information.


What is the currency in my destination? How much should I take in credit cards/cash? Can I use my credit card during my trip?

Our Trip Notes include a section on ‘Money Matters’. Please refer to this for an idea on budgets. Travellers’ cheques are not common practice anymore so it is a good idea to travel with a credit card and ATM card, or a bank issued ‘cash card’ specifically for travel. Having a couple of options will assure that you are covered if one doesn’t work.


How do I obtain Trip Notes/itinerary for full details of my trip?

Every trip has a set of Trip Notes which will be sent to you once you book trip and which gives you in-depth information about all aspects of your trip. Make sure you read them carefully before your departure.


Do I need travel insurance?

Travel insurance is compulsory for all Rug&Rock travellers and should be taken out at the time of booking. You must provide proof of your travel insurance before departure by sending us an email with your Travel Insurance Policy number and your 24h Emergency Telephone Number at info@rugandrock.com. You will not be able to join the trip without it.


What does my policy need to cover?

At a minimum, your travel insurance should be 'comprehensive', providing cover against personal accident, death, medical expenses, emergency repatriation and personal liability. We also strongly recommend it covers cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects.


How do I find out about the visa requirements for the destination I am interested in?

For Morocco all nationalities require a full passport that must be valid for 6 months beyond the intended length of stay. It is your responsibility to have the correct personal documents and to obtain your own visa, if one is necessary, in accordance with the regulations of the country you are from. The information below is primarily for UK passport holders and citizens of the European Union. Other nationalities should check with their travel agent or the relevant embassies. We are not responsible for the actions of local immigration and customs officials, whether at points of entry or otherwise, and any subsequent effects. No visa is required in Morocco for British passport holders or citizens of the European Union. For Spain citizens of the European Union don’t need a visa nor a passport but they do need an official ID.


During your Trip

Is tipping included and if not, how much should I budget?

Tips are not included in the tour price and tipping is entirely at your discretion. Our Trip Notes documentation includes suggested tipping amounts and these will be sent once you have booked an adventure with us.


How, when and where do I meet the group?

You will find information about meeting arrangements in your Trip Notes. Usually the first day the group meet either at the airport or in the evening in your accommodation.
